Barry B. Stein, MD

Barry B. Stein, MD

Barry Stein has been practicing pediatrics in the Upper East Side of New York since 1986. Better known to his patients as Dr Barry, he has helped multitudes of parents successfully raise healthy children into young adulthood and is proud to now be taking care of many of the children of these patients too.

Dr Stein earned his medical degree in 1980 from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed a rotating internship at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town where he was trained in pediatrics, surgery, medicine and obstetrics. He continued to work in South Africa in underserved areas before emigrating and travelling the world for 18 months on his way to the USA.

He was then accepted into the pediatric residency program at the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City where he completed a three year residency. After finishing his residency in 1986, Dr. Stein went into private practice where he continues to care for children from birth through college-age and beyond into young adulthood.

Dr. Stein takes a special interest in both the normal and abnormal development of children. He appreciates the support that new parents need to be successful parents and provides comprehensive anticipatory guidance to them. In addition, to reinforce this support, he runs ongoing groups for new moms. He provides guidance in all aspects of child-rearing from newborn and toddler issues to school issues, the multitude of concerns raising adolescents and the health care of young adults.

Dr Stein is recognized for his excellent clinical skills and sees many children in consultation for complicated health issues.

Dr Stein consistently appears on the best doctors in New York listings in New York magazine, Castle Connolly guides, Super Doctors, Leading Physicians of the World and many others.

He maintains his academic expertise by remaining an active faculty member at the Mt Sinai Medical School where he is an assistant clinical professor and teaches clinical pediatrics to both medical students and residents.

He and his wife, Susan, have raised 3 children on the Upper East Side of New York and he brings this experience to bear too in his daily clinical practice. He continues to reside in the area.

Dr. Stein speaks English, Hebrew, and Afrikaans.
